Operations & Finance Executive • Fractional & Interim Leadership
25+ years leading high-performance teams and P&Ls across industrial, services, nonprofit, and technology sectors. Available as a fractional or interim executive — bringing operational discipline, financial rigor, and modern AI fluency to your next chapter.
A rare combination of executive operating experience and hands-on AI expertise
VP/GM experience leading 80+ person organizations across five states, managing $10M+ P&Ls, and executing complex merger integrations. I've run the operations, not just advised on them.
Wharton and Kellogg-trained in AI strategy, with real-world experience designing custom AI tools, building operational GPTs, and implementing automation that drives measurable business outcomes.
From launching $5M eCommerce platforms to growing nonprofit revenue 40%, I bring a track record of taking organizations from where they are to where they need to be.
About Joe
I'm a mechanical engineer by training, an MBA by education, and an operations executive by experience. Over 25 years, I've led organizations ranging from 20 to 80+ people, managed P&Ls from $2.5M to $30M, and consistently delivered results that matter, revenue growth, operational efficiency, and teams that perform.
My career started in the oilfield services industry, where I spent a decade at a global technology company progressing from analyst to regional manager. From there, I moved to the corporate headquarters of a Fortune 250 waste services company, where I founded their digital marketing department, secured a $20M investment for digital transformation, and launched eCommerce platforms generating $5M+ in annual revenue.
I then took on the challenge of leading a $2.5M nonprofit sports organization as Executive Director, growing revenue 40% and player enrollment 60% over four years. Most recently, I served as VP of Operations and General Manager for a national industrial services company, running an 80-person operation across five states with full P&L accountability.
In 2025, I made a deliberate pivot into fractional and advisory work. I pursued executive AI certifications from Wharton and Kellogg, combined them with hands-on technical training in prompt engineering, AI agents, and generative AI, and began applying these tools to real business problems. The result is a practice that brings something most consultants can't: deep operational and financial leadership paired with genuine AI fluency.
I don't just understand the technology, I understand the businesses it's meant to serve.

Recent consulting engagements spanning AI implementation, strategic advisory, and operational transformation.
A global industrial chemicals company needed to capture decades of institutional troubleshooting knowledge across complex catalyst manufacturing processes, from precipitation to calcination, and make it accessible to plant operators in real time.
Designed and built a custom GPT-powered diagnostic system with a structured five-step troubleshooting workflow, decision trees covering 9 symptom categories, and a memory engine for institutional knowledge retention. Created both manager-level and simplified operator versions for maximum adoption.
Additionally, led an in-person AI workshop with the client's leadership and operations teams, training them on practical AI adoption strategies and demonstrating real-world use cases for integrating AI into their daily workflows, from process optimization to knowledge management.
A billion-dollar fuel distribution company with 250 employees across the Pacific Northwest had grown rapidly but lacked organizational alignment with strategic priorities. Functional responsibilities were unclear, technology infrastructure lagged peers, and underperforming acquisitions diluted focus.
Delivered a three-phase engagement: organizational design framework with best-practice benchmarking, competitive analysis against 8 peer companies, and comprehensive role/accountability mapping for 20+ positions. Identified 7 critical structural gaps and defined a clear path to close them.
A luxury vacation rental franchise operator needed comprehensive strategic support across nearly every dimension of the business: franchise valuation, org design, marketing execution, lease analysis, pricing optimization, and governance structuring for a 50/50 partnership.
Served as a fractional strategic advisor, delivering franchise valuation analysis tied to FDD benchmarks, a complete organizational design for multi-property management, multi-channel marketing campaigns (email, SMS, direct mail), property-level pricing research, and partnership operating agreements.
A prospective buyer needed a comprehensive business review of an established seafood restaurant to evaluate a $450K asking price, including multi-year financial trending, asset valuation, margin analysis, and seasonal performance patterns.
Built a complete acquisition analysis with four years of P&L data, three valuation methodologies, monthly transaction detail, supplier relationship mapping, and COGS analysis by vendor. Identified declining revenue trends and quantified the gap between asking price and assessed value.
An entrepreneur wanted to launch a lean fuel distribution business capitalizing on carbon allowance price differentials between Washington and Oregon under the state's Climate Commitment Act. The opportunity was time-sensitive and politically fragile.
Developed a comprehensive business case with multi-scenario financial modeling, regulatory risk assessment, licensing/compliance mapping, and a risk dashboard with clear exit triggers. Defined hard stops tied to legislative, market, and regulatory events to protect against downside exposure.
A national manufacturer needed to introduce AI to their executive team, address data security concerns, and build practical AI fluency across five business functions.
Delivered a corporate AI adoption package including a data security and setup guide to remove executive friction, plus a fully customized 22-slide AI training deck with 35 prompt patterns, each demonstrated with company-specific examples. Mapped 20+ concrete use cases across sales, marketing, ops, customer service, and finance, and designed a 30-day rollout plan with weekly milestones.
A small consulting and virtual assistant firm wanted to build AI fluency to improve internal efficiency and differentiate their service offering, but the founder had no AI background and needed a clear, prioritized path forward.
Built a personalized AI education roadmap with 9 prioritized courses in a phased learning plan, a business analysis mapping AI opportunities to the firm's five service pillars, and concrete use cases for each. Identified a path to 2x productivity on client deliverables and positioned "AI-enabled virtual support" as a market differentiator.
A fractional CFO firm managing month-end closes for 10+ clients across six different payroll and accounting platforms needed to reduce the mechanical effort in their monthly close process without sacrificing accuracy or client trust.
Designed a complete AI-powered close automation system, including a requirements analysis, a three-part solution architecture (client profiles, close assistant, close reports), a four-phase rollout starting with a single-client pilot, and a hands-on implementation guide with starter kit. No code required; the entire system runs on plain-English instruction files and the firm's existing Excel workbooks.
